Each saree reflects the rich cultural heritage of its region.
Ikkat Cotton Sarees Weaving Process
Ikat cotton sarees are crafted using the intricate tie-and-dye technique. First, the cotton yarn is carefully aligned and wound onto spools or cones. The threads are then stretched on a triangular frame, where the design is meticulously marked. Based on the pattern, sections of the yarn are tightly tied and dipped into dye baths, a process repeated as needed for additional colors. After drying, the yarn is loaded onto a handloom for weaving.
In single ikat, only the weft yarn is dyed, while in double ikat, both the weft and warp yarns are dyed to create intricate patterns.
If the yarn is mercerized cotton yarn, it is called mercerized cotton sarees.
